Panel 11 - Agriculture

Agriculture is a major industry in the area. Tuscarawas County ranks fourth in Ohio in the number of dairy cows and fifth in all cattle & calves. Driving through the countryside, you will see contour farming on the hillsides, neatly-kept farm buildings and crops of corn, wheat, oats, beans and hay. Farmers can be seen working in the fields both with the most modern of tractors, combines and other equipment as well as with horse-drawn farm equipment. Don't forget to look for the quilt squares that are painted on several barns in the valley. The pattern on the barn in this sculpture is called the Ohio Star. Buildings represented in the background are Eckert Bros. and the Sugarcreek Livestock Auction, known affectionately as the “sale barn.” Note the bank barn, the animals, the boy fishing and the big bales.
